The overall experience of this project... Now that I have been through the process and looked back at it as a whole, i see the value and power of this project through the work, sometimes tedious, students like us can create great change starting in our own community of this here school of Kamehameha. I hope this can always continue and grow every year, even exponentially. My group was good but also challenging to work with, and we made it in the end with confidence. Mr. Blake truly helped with our project success and im grateful to him for continuing to teach this class and carry out this project. As i leave Kamehameha in a few days it is nice to know i at least left a small impact and legacy of change for my younger brothers and sisters.

As the school year concludes and so does this quarter long project as well, I can honestly say that I am very happy that I decided to take Mālama Honua this year. If I never took this class, I would have never been so aware of this Earth and my surroundings. Going in to my last year of high school and then college, I now have a new perspective on what taking care of this Earth really means.
Concerning this project, I am honestly really pleased with how it went. Although there were many bumps along the way, I think that we really did help contribute to solving a problem on this campus. Through this project, I learned that sustainability is not only cleaning a loʻi or fishpond, but also educating others about what sustainability means and how they can apply it to their own lives. By going down to the middle school and educating them about sustainability, I think that we planted a seed (big or small) in those students and hopefully they'll apply to their own lives. Another huge thing that I learned was the importance of communication. Without it, you'll never get anything accomplished if you are working with others. If as a group we didn't communicate that well, we didn't really do the work. But if we did communicate well, we were better off. It just comes to show that no matter how small the detail, communication is always key. One thing that really worked by doing this project was actually the execution of it. Honestly, pretty much everything we did was what we wanted to do. We educated the next generation of Kamehameha students about the concept of sustainability and got many of them interested in this class (as it was seen on top the post-survey we sent them). Our group was extremely happy with how the project turned out and I think that we did all that we wanted to do. If there was one thing that we could modify, it would be to continue to send groups down to middle school. After our presentations on May 3rd, Mrs. Harbottle showed lots of interest in continuing this and that many other teachers would be interested in having these kinds of presentations for their own students at the middle school. To conclude, I just want to say thank you to everyone who contributed to our project, because you helped in creating change in well. Also, a huge mahalo to Mr. Blake for inspiring us to take action in our school community and to create change in places that we wanted change. -Kona After a long and late night of presentations at the Symposium, we are all reflecting back on how we did, not only at the presentation but the overall experience of this project. It was in some parts a rough journey but we made it through in the end, and our presentation was good and we were confident in ourselves and in our project and mission. We believed that even though our project was direct action, it was something different from everyone else and we still had great success in our works at the middle school. Coming from a personal point i am proud of my group for finally finishing despite some phases of inactivity.
Today is finally the day of the Symposium! During class, we visited Konia 108-109, the place of the presentation, practiced the flow of our own presentation, and updated our notes so that it would match the flow of the PowerPoint. While the Symposium started at 5:00, we all had to be there at 4:30. The Symposium honestly felt really slow, but maybe it was because we went all the way at the end :/. All of that aside, I was actually very pleased with how ours and other presentations went. I felt that we communicated our project very clearly and organized and because of that, I was very proud of my group.
Tomorrow is our day to finally present. We spent a while rehearsing and practicing in Mr. Blakes office, timing, taking notes, and improving and streamlining our presentation. We assigned each person a different slide and Kuleana, and we also created a presentation notes in order for us to follow along in the proper order. On the notes we put titles and a small description on each slide, and in real time the respective person would expand and iterate on it. We also found out that our presentation was the very last. We are confident but also nervous about tomorrow.
I am honestly both excited, and kind of anxious as the Symposium is only two days away! We didn't have class today, but I did spend some time on cleaning up the slides and our final paper. Some of the things that I worked on was making sure that there were not much words on the slides so that it'd be nice and organized for Friday, created notes for our presentation, and that our paper was in the right order according to the rubric. Hopefully tomorrow during class, we can rehearse our presentation.
Our group is now preparing to do a presentation on May 19th to explain what we did in our project and how it affected the community and the areas around us. Today, we continued our progress on both our presentation and final paper. Since our final pieces of our project are almost finished, we spent class reviewing all of our grammar and to see if our slides in the presentation actually made sense. As of right now, we are still waiting on one more reflection but we are hopeful that will be finished very soon.
We are continuing to work on our presentation and our final report paper. It is coming along well and we found out that the final report was quite simple, it is almost a culmination and compilation of all of our previous documents that we already wrote, so we simply had to copy and paste most of our already written things into our final paper. The presentation is coming along to its final stages in preparation for our Symposium, and we will soon begin to rehearse for it.
Today was really productive, we worked on our new presentation and was able to get the footage from the camera. The footage was about 15 minutes each and there were 4 videos. We also are working on the presentation for the final. We are figuring out what we want to talk about and how we will get what we did, and show the people what can be done from even the smallest things. We are also rehearsing and trying to get everything ready because its the end of the year. So this is a very nerve racking experience but was also one of the greatest chances to carry on our culture.
Today in class we are working on our presentation to present next week Friday at the symposium. We are hoping that there will be a big crowd at the presentation. We are going to present about what we did in our project and describe how it effected the hawaiian people. In the presentation we are hoping to get to speak for around 9-12 minutes and in those few minutes we are going to try explain everything we have done. It shouldn't be that hard to complete but we have a lot of information to present in such a little time that we need to only pick out the very important parts.
